How turning my ringer off, put the power back in my hands.
As a business owner, the cell phone is a fantastic tool. I can check emails, message clients, view my schedule online in real time and book appointments, even when I’m out of the office. While in treatment, I use an old phone as a clock and to stream my music. My current massage playlist is over 50 hours long and since so many people ask, you can view it here on Spotify.
While I love the cell phone, I also hate it.
Whatever you call it, meditation should be a part of your day.
Last week I became aware of a habit I’ve developed since preparing to open the new clinic. I have been waking up and hopping on the computer to get some digital work completed (stay tuned in the coming months!). I realized that I was pouring my morning cup of warmth (tea or coffee, I’m a switcher) and bringing it directly to my computer desk.
For some reason, a conversation I had had with a friend about morning routines popped into my head.
These are the things that make us love what we do.. when we have a positive impact on how people feel in their body and sometimes even in their life, we’re honoured to hear this kind of feedback.
Recently I saw a post online, and it read “If you didn’t need the money, would you still get up every day and go to work?”
Any time is the right time for moving!
It’s easy to fall into being “too busy” to exercise. When work/life/kids/chores/etc steal your day away, and exercise isn’t a solid part of your routine, all of a sudden you just stop moving.
Sometimes we get lucky and get invited out for an afternoon on the water- in what we think are the best kind of boats- the non motorized kind.
Sure, pop culture makes it seem so luxurious to be on a yacht popping bottles of Chandon. But we’d personally much rather work up a sweat and get those muscles moving so we can enjoy our spiked beverages (almost) guilt free.
This is why we both consistently treat the anterior shoulder and chest - if your therapist doesn’t release the tight muscles that are pulling your shoulders forward, how will you ever resolve the chronic pain in the back of your shoulder and neck?
Side note- love these guys.. check out MoveU on FB or instagram for some high energy, intelligent insight on how to properly engage your muscles and “fix yo sh*t”!
For us, fitness is far from being skinny and thigh gaps and washboard abs.. we believe being ‘fit’ means being able to carry out daily activities of living with ease and hopefully some grace.
You probably can’t tell from the picture, but the hydraulic massage table we’re carrying is heavy as heck: +150 lbs.
Ever wonder why you hated the treadmill? Check out this TedEd lesson to find out how a torture device transitioned into being a widely used apparatus - and then get outside and GET MOVING!!
Ever been at the gym on a treadmill and wondered why the heck you weren’t outside?? I sure have.
Sure it’s convenient to just hop on and not think about where you are and plant your face in your phone or the TV, but it leaves lots to be desired.
Having an active dog gets me out and moving, not every single day, but most days a week we go on an adventure.
Look who Amanda spotted in the office backyard. Making sure we get outside and enjoy the dog days of summer while they last. The sun is important for our health and well being. Too little sun is bad for us (we need vitamin D) but too much is also dangerous (heat stoke, sunburns), be like Goldilocks and find "just right".
Thank you so much to everyone for your support and well wishes these past weeks as we transition into our new space, we are full of gratitude for all the plants, cards, handmade glasses, and of course the wine!
Amanda was lucky enough to sub for a dragon boat racing tournament on the weekend. She hadn't even heard about it until 2 days before.
Talk about strengthening the upper back and shoulders! All that rowing aka pulling, was a great way to combat all the pushing we do as therapists all day!
Amanda offered her services for a full day yoga retreat with wonderful Carol K-V at the gorgeous Iron Horse Ranch in Bethany on Saturday.
The weather and the view were both perfect that day!
Amanda has passed her exam, procured the appropriate insurance, and received the ok from the CMTO, and can finally start practicing Acupuncture.
Please note that acupuncture will be integrated into your massage treatment with Amanda (if you consent to it) and will not cost any additional money. It will be billable to your insurance provider under massage therapy.
Grand opening today! Great things to come, and couldn’t ask for a better group of ladies to work with!
Nothing makes your business feel official like a sign out front!
